Hi mates,
Am intending to buy a 06 or a 07 model.
this will be my 1st subaru.
Could you gusy advise on what I should look out for when buying a second hander forrester?
Also some questions
- I know FC is high for this car, any ways to reduce this
- Any common problems?
- I heard of some peeps lowering the forrester, what difference does it make?
Thanks!

Remove the back area and look for accident marks on the body panel.
FC high is not true, am also driving a 08 SG9 model and consumption was better than my previous ride WRX and recently i swap to 18 inches and FC went up slightly only.
It depends on how heavy is your footing on your accelerator pedal....
Common probs depends on cars so cant say much.....
Lowering one's ride is to make the car's handling better when taking corners, as they say, the lower the ride the better the car performs....

Hey Bro,
Thanks for the info!
when it comes to lowering the car, how much does it cost?
Also, can i change the bonnet to the Turbo version with the air intake?
How much will it cost to
- change the bonnet
- lower the car
thanks!

No probs!
Lowering car depends on one's budget though...you can either change to 2nd hand WRX/STi suspension with STi or after mkt springs which will set u back ard $500 - $700 depending.
Or go for aftermarket suspensions like Tein or BC coilover which will cost ard $1.5 to $2.5k
Yes, you can change your bonnet to the Tubro model but i think only Motorimage sells them...it should cost ard $1.5k i think with or without spraying that i wont know.

more questions -
the stock suspensions and brakes are good enough?
(provided i buy the 06 model, and not lowering the car)
And tyre models to recommend?

Stock suspension well, for me is not good as i intend to lower later on cos not used to driving too high....
Brakes, nah, i am not comfy with original brakes given the power of the forester so i had them changed to Brembos front and rear.
Tyres you have to go on your own and decide cos my choice and yours may not be the same.....
I am using Goodyear Assemetric 245/40/18 with rota g-force 18x9.0J offset 35 wheels
Looks damn fierce man.....

That does sounds fierce.
How much did you spend on your brembos?

It does bro but then my rear bearings gave way yesterday so have to change to the more durable roller tapered bearings so accomodate the extreme wheels size....
Oh my brembos is not your oridinary gold which you see on most cars, mine is the 2008 STi ones, black in color with wordings STi on it instead of brembos. Difference is the rear caliper and rotors is slightly bigger....
Of course the rear has to modify to fit the forester cos its not a direct bolt on, only the front is...
I paid mine about $5k modifying the rear to fit cos its brand new taken off from a STi in the UK and shipped to S'pore. I did mine from Espace Service Ctr in Ubi.
Braking is awesome cos i am used to having good brakes in all my rides....
Normal gold brembos u see in the 2nd hand market will set u back ard $3k for front and rear...best thing is you dont have to modify if you buy from a previous owner who is dekitting his ride.....

You can feel the difference in braking bro....normal brakes you have to step depressed the pedal alot to brake whereas Brembos, just a bit and it stopping already....guarantee you its worth the cash spending on brakes cos nowadays bloody sporeans drive so close if jam brake all sure kenna....so many accidents is caused by driving too close....so good brakes is a must in a forester or any cars.....
Yes, normally brakes dont spoil easily, only the pads and rotors u need to look out for....also, they have a good resale value for brembos......
Mitsubishi Evo's Honda Integra, Civic Type R, Nissan GTR, 350Z fairlady all using Brembos cos its realiable.....
go see sg car mart website now, they have a few forester selling for 2007 model quite good price.....
